When it comes to food safety, investing in a reliable dust extraction solution is becoming increasingly important for agricultural entrepreneurs. Modesta is a Dutch family business with a long history. Founded by the Kloppenburg family in 1949, the company made a name for itself amid the post-war Reconstruction period in the Netherlands. First of all, Modesta employs an active cleaning strategy to ensure a cleaner agricultural product. This means dust and skins are separated from the onions before sending them to the packing line. The onions can go on to the next step in the process much cleaner, resulting in a less dusty and dirty factory floor. But there are other benefits, too: for instance, a cleaner product results in increased machine capacity and reduced wear on moving parts. Lastly, Modesta makes sure to use only the necessary amount of energy: their dust collectors consist of several cascading fans, turning on and off depending on the needed capacity.
Apart from their active cleaning strategy, Modesta also takes a factory’s residual flows into account. For instance, their waste scraper is fully enclosed, dust-proof and capable of handling high loads of waste mechanically. In order to ensure efficient waste management, Modesta makes sure any residual flows are extracted and stored far away from the clean product. Furthermore, their consultancy includes thking about the prevailing wind direction at entrances and exits, making sure the airflow goes from clean to dirty, preventing the dirtier parts of the process from contaminating the clean end product.
